Evan Roth

Very interesting blog with some bizarre pieces of work – in particular the ball of spray cans that leaves a trail of paint when rolled and the spray cans strapped to a guys feet! I liked the short video clips of each piece and what they do ‘physically’ to create art. Some fun and crazy ideas!

The Eye Writer

Wow – I was blown away by this page. I had never seen anything like it before. The video footage is very moving and incredible. We get to meet the eye writer and his art work that has only been made possible through the eye-tracking system that allows paralysed patients to draw using their eyes.

Aram Bartholl

The only thing I thought was interesting was the Captcha codes – Codes that we see all the time when activating accounts or changing password etc. I had never seen them as anything but that and seeing them in a gallery together was very interesting – this code now being explored in the digital arts world.

Digital artist I came across was Alberto Seveso, Italian digital artist who focuses on Illustration, digital photograph and digital art – his work is amazing!

Some of the pieces I particularly like;

Bird's eye view of handle bars on a bike using the golden section

Painting using the Golden Section - thinking about a good composition

I have found that the golden section fits this composition. My eye is drawn to the middle of heart towards the top and this is where the golden section lies.

Pomegranate, Shell and dried flower

Drawings using the golden section.  I really enjoyed this task. It took time to work out the correct measurements for the golden section but once done we were able to recreate our drawings on a larger scale. I used pencil lightly to draw my subject then applied quink ink, bleach and water. We were shown a variety of ways of applying the quick ink and bleach from using bamboo to string.  I used the end of a ruler to create the marks on the shell. I found this way of drawing very effective and was able to produce the drawings quite quickly.

This task was all about the golden section. It was a guide to where my subject should be placed in the composition – visually satisfying of all geometric forms.

Task – To Produce drawings which consider the composition carefully – the object and the space that it inhabits:

Drawings from observation using different graded pencils.

Perspective drawing is a technique to represent three-dimensional images on a two-dimensional picture plane. There are many forms used under perspective drawing such as, one perspective, two-point perspective, three-point perspective, birds eye view, worm’s eye view and others.

Introduced to the film ‘Man with a Movie Camera’ – 1929.

Silent documentary film – no story – no actors. Made by Russian director Dziga Vertov and edited by his wife Eizaveta Svilova. The film presents urban life in the Ukrainian cities. The film portrays soviet citizens at work and at play from morning to night. This film has become famous for a range of cinematic techniques, some of which are; double motion, slow motion, freeze frames, split screens, extreme close ups……….

To create original documentary style photographic images, through reference dissection and re-interpretation of four chosen scenes shot from an existing film work.

Having a play on illustrator – I’ve got this far and I’m stuck. Don’t know how the colour changes within the triangles.
More practise needed

Introduction to Illustrator

Having a go in illustrator…….
This was difficult and will need lots of practice. I thought I had joined my lines correctly but this was proved not the case when I started to apply colours. I should have created lots of triangles that were joined but instead had random shapes – not good!!
I will have another go!
