Possible ideas for future projects including the Bentalls. Wall hangings or wallpaper or even lampshade designs.

This is a very bright design duplicated but I could imagine these working quite well as postcards backed onto ‘ice white’ card. I think they might look even better working in symmetry – I don’t know how to do this but will have a go – or ask Layla!!

I could almost imagine these as screen prints!

I have been keen to scan my ink drawings into Photoshop and Illustrator and have a ‘play’ with some of the effects that are available. I really like what I’ve been able to do and most of it was only achieved by altering the light and shadows. If I’m honest I think I’ve told myself too many times that I can’t ‘do’ Photoshop’/’Illustrator’, but I think I can and will now make a conscious effort to work with my drawings in this way.

Week 2 – Having had a discussion with Mark I have now decided exactly what I am going to do for this final project.

I will return to my original natural form lino cuts and bring them next week ready to scan. Once scanned I will trace them into illustrator.

These will then become lazor cuts.

Meanwhile I will continue producing free hand drawings of natural forms in illustrator. I then have the choice of using either or both as final pieces.

I have taken photos of my local river and have then produced ink drawings looking specifically at the shadows and light reflected onto the water.

Susan Derges is a shadow catcher! Her work is amazing!

Having experimented with printing I was keen to print onto fabric. I have used calico which has proved to be an ideal fabric to print on. I have then gone one step further and decided to experiment with small stitching within the design.
What began as a simple black print on calico has now been transformed into a new medium, accentuating elements with a simple stitch.

Mark introduced the brief for digital Bentalls.

It’s a self initiated digitally centred project to run alongside the Bentalls project. We have been asked to produce a parallel digital outcome of our choice that sits with the bulk of the project.

I am interested in packaging and would possibly like to design packaging for my latest metal casts of natural forms. Mark likes the idea and would now like me to put my ideas of paper and have a play with drawings. These designs would eventually be designed as vectors in Illustrator then lazor cut. I want the packaging to have a natural feel. It may be that the packaging come together with leather ties or string…???

This was a large drawing which I decided to rip into pieces to emphasise the most interesting areas. Water was applied after the quink ink and bleach had dried. The water has created a smokey burnt effect. These drawings almost remind me of a swamp or murky pond. The bleach almost looks gold and in some areas reminds me of the sun hitting water.
